Why we started: getting by with a little help from my friends

Hello people

Before wishing you all a happy New Year 2023 on this platform, I will like you all to know that I am honoured to have each one of you as a friend.

The one thing everyone in this association has in common is me, yes Me.

Juggling a fast-pace modern lifestyle, hectic work schedules and family life on a daily basis has impacted many friendships and other personal relationships outside of the family setting.

Many people, especially those who don’t participate actively in ‘normal’ daily-living activities are sidelined easily or forgotten altogether, despite also having a part to play! Keeping in touch and interacting effectively on a regular basis now requires planning and a determined effort to stay connected.

Nurat Adebimpe Ladoja and friends society is being established as a way for me to retain connectedness, as well as form new associations that will serve other purposes that are built around common attainable goals, in the future.

I’m hoping that a voluntary association such as this will be composed of a very helpful bunch of people, who will assist each other to develop certain aspects of each individual’s wellness-needs, in a safe environment. With a first virtual meeting planned for the end of February 2023, and 3 other meetings this year, each held every three months.

You all know certain aspects about my life and disability, so it will be important for everyone to gain an understanding about disability in its various forms, the Social impact (limitations) of being a disabled (and a single person, in my case) here in UK, as well as some Highlights (if any) of being disabled.

Someone, a friend who is lawyer, is currently having a look at a constitution document for the society. Once this is finalised, I will send another message to you all and inform you about the plans for the first meeting.

In time, I’m sure other friends will also play key parts in the formation and operation of this society.

For your information, I have covid at present, so please keep me in your thoughts and prayers, thank you.

  1. Dear Autumn: meeting minutes and what’s next

Autumn greeting image from the society

    Dear Autumn 🍂 ,

Believe it or not we are just over two months away from year-end 2023, and M&S has sold out of their online whole Turkey for this Christmas (just a random fact for you, I know the vegetarians aren’t bothered.)

I hope you parents are all coping well with the school-run and having a well deserved break given as it’s half term week.

Please find attached below minutes for the 2nd and 3rd virtual meetings held by the society.

For those who could not attend the third meeting, and did not send me their responses to the icebreaker questions please please send them in still to this email address, as I have to circulate this to the rest of the members as part of our ‘getting to know ourselves’/bonding process, thank you.

One of the objectives of the society is community engagement. The festive season is usually a good time to do something in the wider community, however, this is only our first year of being a group. Not all membership fees for year 2023 has also been received yet, which also places a limit on any charitable giving this year.

I will be so thankful if Members can send in the membership fees to the bank account details provided.

Please don’t forget that we have a virtual meeting coming up in November on the last Monday, which is the 27th. Zoom invites for the sent out before that date.

Wishing you all a happy New Year, and thanks for being friends.
